Programme Introduction


The Integrated Planning for Sustainable Water Management (IPSWAM) programme commenced in November 2003 and is scheduled for a period of five years. It aims to assist the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) to find a practical way to introduce realistic, affordable and sustainable participatory and integrated water resources management.

The programme has drawn extensively on lessons learned both from projects executed in the past and those which are continuing. IPSWAM is a pathfinder programme, in that the methodology being developed is based on actual practical experience. The IPSWAM programme’s field areas are located in the Southern and South Western Zones of Bangladesh. The total budget of this programme is 8,706 lakh Taka, of which the Government of The Netherlands contributes 6,181 lakh Taka and the remaining 2,525 lakh Taka is being spent by the Government of Bangladesh.
