Training
The training activities within IPSWAM are targeted to enhance the capacity of BWDB, WMOs and Local Government Institutions (LGIs).
The over-all objective of the training targeted at the BWDB is to assist it in its capability building in order to carry out efficiently and independently its defined roles and responsibilities specified in the National Water Policy (NWPo) and the Guidelines for Participatory Water Management (GPWM). Specifically, the training will develop and enhance the knowledge and skills of the planning staff in the:
- Planning and implementation of an integrated water resources management plan using multi-disciplinary approach and participatory methods.
- Organization and strengthening of viable Water Management Organisations (WMO) for the sustainable operation and maintenance of the polders.
- Use of various planning tools such as Environmental Impact Assessment, Social Impact Assessment, Gender Mainstreaming, Geographic Information System (GIS) and computer aid designs.
- Use of Participatory Rapid Appraisal (PRA) for the inventory of present water management practices, stakeholder analysis, problem analysis and needs assessment.
In order to implement training and capacity building activities a training plan was developed based on a Training Needs Assessment.
Several training modules and handouts have been produced.
